Verified Facility Health
The definitive standard for commercial building operational performance. Not what a building was designed to do — what it is actually doing, verified annually.
The Standard
Certified on paper. Verified in practice.
Existing certifications — LEED, WELL, ENERGY STAR — confirm design intent. None of them
verify that a building is actually performing well operationally, day after day, year after
year. VFH fills that gap with a rigorous, independent, annual verification across 7
performance domains.
Independent
VFH operates as a standalone certification body — separate from any consulting firm or vendor.
Binary Standard
Strictly pass/fail. No tiers, no bronze/silver/gold. Every building displaying the emblem meets the same threshold.
Annual Verification
Certification is valid for 12 months. Annual re-verification ensures ongoing operational excellence.
The Framework
7 Performance Domains
A building must achieve a minimum threshold in every domain. There is no averaging
or offsetting — a single domain failure prevents certification.
01
MEP Performance & Preventative Maintenance
HVAC comfort delivery, electrical distribution reliability, plumbing system integrity, vertical transport; documented PM schedules and electro-mechanical reliability
03
Fire & Life Safety Compliance
Unforeseen expensive equipment failureFire suppression, alarms, egress routes, emergency/exit lighting; up-to-date testing logs, emergency protocols, strict code adherences that were never properly forecasted or mitigated.
02
Building Envelope & Structural Integrity
Roof systems, exterior walls, windows, doors, foundation; weatherproofing efficacy, insulation performance, proactive moisture control
04
Energy Management & Environmental Conditions
Consumption benchmarking, indoor air quality, thermal comfort, water management; measured against real operational baselines, not design estimates.
05
Maintenance Operations & Cleanliness
Daily facility upkeep and work order systems; asset tracking maturity, work order resolution metrics, overall facility cleanliness
06
Vendor & Contract Management
Third-party service providers and contract auditing; contract compliance, performance measurement, SLA accountability
07
Capital Planning & Lifecycle Management
Long-term asset forecasting and capital project execution; lifecycle projection accuracy and reserve adequacy
How It Works
The Certification Process
VFH operates as a standards-setting and accreditation body. We do not perform
audits directly — accredited firms like Mattco & Associates deliver the program to
building owners.
Step 01
Engage an Accredited Firm
Building owner selects a VFH-accredited facility management firm to perform the assessment.
Step 02
VFH Pledge Awarded
The building is registered with VFH and receives the Pledge emblem — signaling active pursuit of certification.
Step 03
7-Domain Assessment
The accredited firm conducts a comprehensive diagnostic using the standardized VFH methodology.
Step 04
Submission to VFH
Findings are submitted to VFH’s independent Certification Review Panel for quality review.
Step 05
Certification Issued
The Panel issues a pass/fail determination. Certified buildings display the VFH emblem at their principal entrance.
Step 06
Annual Re-Verification
Certification is valid for 12 months. Annual re-verification maintains the emblem and ensures ongoing performance.
The Designations
Binary. Rigorous. Unambiguous.
VFH Pledge
The building owner has formally committed to pursuing certification. Valid for up to 18 months while working toward full verification.
Verified Facility Health
The building has met the VFH standard across all 7 performance domains. Annual re-verification
required.
